Getting more of what you want is expedited by alignment.
Alignment is like the wind. You can't see wind, but you can certainty see it's effects... the ripples on the water, the forward motion of a sail boat, etc. The wind is not what is seen. The effects of wind is what is visible.
In this spirit, a model for alignment is like attempting to make the wind visible. It's only as relevant as it's effects. This is why the ClarityWorks method exists. It is what brings this model to life, it is the wind in the sails of your life. One does not exist without the other, the model and the method.
There are many different models of alignment out in the wild, however we believe that this is the most simple, yet still effective model. It contains definitions of each level's purpose and it's relationship to previous and subsequent levels.
The ClairtyWorks method specifies how to work with this alignment model. It contains questions to ask yourself and approaches to work with your answers (ie ClarityWork in the verb form) to reach peak clarity and get more of your desired results. The prefered method for using this method is ... real life. Meaning to learn the method is to try it out, do the work, live and breathe it. This occurs in the ClarityWork-ing Groups.
The truth is that any individual is welcome to the ClarityWorks method. Everyone is welcome to contemplate and answer the questions and do the ClarityWork. After all, the questions we're getting clarity on are generally quite simple: who are you, what do you want and how will you get it.
However, those individuals who align to the following statements are more likely to resonate with ClarityWorks, be energized by the process and get better results:
I believe in something greater than myself. I connect to God, Spirit, The Universe, Consciousness, My Soul or some other similar Entity that serves as meaning beyond my physical existence.
I believe in radical responsibility. I use my ability to respond and take action to show up and do the work required of me.
I believe in getting more of what I want. I make my dreams come true.
The ClarityWorks method is meant for individuals. However, a team, a community, a business, a society, etc. is simply a grouping of individuals. Therefore, we are also creating NestWorks to build upon the foundation of ClarityWorks as a means to scale. More on NestWorks will be published as it becomes available.
The following is a proverbial know-before-you-go. It is based on common feedback and experiences that occur while practicing ClarityWork. It is not guaranteed that you will have any or all of these thoughts or experiences, but they are included here to deepen your understanding of ClarityWorks and encourage you as you get started with your ClarityWorks practice.
Your answers, like many aspects of ClarityWork, are not as simple as a fill in the blank exercise. It is a multi-step process. Again, not a fill in the blank and be done. Nope. It's ask yourself a question. Listen for your most honest answer. Live out that answer in real life. Reflect again on the question and see what you learned in your most recent real-life experience. Then use the new information to further clarify your answer and or build certainty in what you have already learned. Rinse. Repeat.
Embodiment is Peak Clarity
Embodiment is an indication that you've achieved peak clarity because living and breathing the answers to the ClarityWorks questions is effortless, natural and brings an ease to your being. There is no need to study or prepare or pull up your notes in order to answer any question. You will have become the answer and you'll be clear about that too. Embodiment of your clarity is the experience of certainty that is void of doubt. And that kind of communication, using your entire being, is the most effective form of communication. It is peak clarity.
ClarityWork can easily become a life's work. As long as I have an identity, as long as I have a desire to create for myself, I will have ClarityWork to do. That said, I have also seen the incredible impact of this work take shape very quickly. I currently recommend a minimum of 3 months of learning and practicing before making a judgement based on your results.
It is incredibly common to doubt, judge or compare what we think, what we believe, even who we are against that which surrounds us on the outside. Its just that in this work, it's not helpful. What is on the inside of us, the truth of who we are and what we believe is valued here. Bringing forth what makes you uniquely you is the bigger picture here. To be fully who we are, as we are, no right, no wrong. You may discover there is something about you, how you think, what you're creating etc. that you'd like to change. That is also welcome, but not without first acknowledging the truth of what is inside of us right now.
You: Tracy, I'm desperately in need of a job and you want me to spend a month answering questions about my values?!
Me: Yes. Yes I do and here's why:
It can seem counterintuitive to spend time asking yourself questions about your values when you're out of work and looking for a job. But let's be honest. If what you have already been doing has not produced the results you're looking for, then why wouldn't you want to try something different, even if slightly counterintuitive?
Besides, you will find much more joy in learning about who you are and how you express yourself than you will learning techniques for resume writing and interviewing or researching companies.
But let me be clear, I'm not bashing resume writing skills or putting yourself out there or researching potential employers. I'm saying that starting with all the doing is exhausting and wasteful if not connected to a strategy, which is aligned to your goals, which also aligns to who you are, which is also aligned to a greater something than yourself.
And we've all been there, usually with some underlying current of panic and hurry that justifies something like the resume spray approach. It's also tiring, its a lot of work, it can feel soul-sucking and also doesn't work well. It's so very common and also an extremely inefficient way of getting more of what you want.
The more time you spend at the levels higher up in the model, like identity and values focusing on who you are etc., the faster and more effectively you'll move through the consequent levels. As a result, by the time you get down to the last level of making your to-do list, it will pretty much write itself. And you'll be happier with the results. And you'll actually enjoy the process because you'll be energized by the work you're doing because you will be so clear about how the work aligns to your greater purpose. And that doesn't seem so counterintuitive after-all, now does it?
Call to all those who have ever loved you, dead or alive. Call to God, call on to the Universe, your Spirit team, your Community. Call upon that Entity that you believe represents that which is greater than you. Ask that they come along with you and provide assistance. Then listen for the answers. Assume they've already been granted.
Not only will you get help, you'll also get to participate more consciously in the magical experience of co-creation. I believe that we are all co-creators and creating clarity is no exception. You don't do it in a vacuum.
And if praying to God or calling on your lost loved ones doesn't evoke the kind of ease and reassurance you're looking for, at the very least count on existence. It sustains us, it provides for life. Trust that in this existence you have all that you need to thrive.
Record your thoughts and experiences somehow: chat with your own AI agent, record voice memos, use a rainbow of sticky notes, journal, Trello board... something! The visual/audio record will prove to be very useful in growing your appreciation for the evolution of your clarity over time. A great encouragement to see where you started and where you've since arrived.
It's also helpful as a way to focus on the task at hand. There are many a rabbit hole you'll find in this work. Having a written record to bring you back to what is worth clarifying, the question at hand, etc. has been incredibly helpful in remaining focused. It's great for capturing thoughts that have piqued your interest but need to simmer until you're ready to come back and dive into them further. Again, you're clarifying something but not everything all at once.
It also feels great to check an item off your list as done.
I recommend using a Trello board. Those who participate in the 3 Month Cohorts use one created from our template as a starting point and then make it their own. Personalizing the board and visuals, especially the background image, is if nothing else, simply lovely to look at as you work.
Go in order generally, but no need to be super strict about it. Sometimes you just need to do what I call a "take the lid off" session. Unleash your thoughts and do a brain dump of all that is on your heart and mind without formally organizing it into appropriate levels. It may be that thoughts about what you want is fresh in your mind. Or it could be that you're ripe from a recent snafoo life experience and you're smack dab in the middle of realizing more clearly what you want. Ok start there. However, I will remind you to go back to identity and values most. The more work you do there, the more benefit you'll get from it's clarity as you work down to the other levels.
There is an innate interconnectedness between all the levels of ClarityWorks, which means that you'll never only be working on one level without implications on the other levels. This is actually a beautiful benefit of creating clarity in one level, because the downstream effect is that creating clarity in the next level gets exponentially faster. Clarity begets clarity, you see, and you can use it to your advantage. It can be a source of encouragement to spend that extra couple of weeks really refining and clarifying, living and experiencing your values as that work will pay off in spades as you move along to the goal, strategy and work levels.
The interconnectedness goes both ways. While you can have whatever goal you'd like to have, you may need to do some more work on your identity to bring it into alignment. A good example here is in business. A laundry mat business will not have the same goals as a global real estate investment firm. If a laundry mat would like to have the goals of a real estate investment firm, then fine, that's great! They'll need to do some work on their identity first. You can have whatever goals you want to have and in turn you will want to check that it also aligns to your identity.
As much as I'd like to believe that this method is perfect and will work for everyone, its not and it won't. If you like it, cool. Use it.Tell us about it too. If you're indifferent, that's ok too. If you want everyone to have a crack at it too, cool. Yes! The best way to share it with others is to do all the work for yourself first and foremost. Then share it with others. Remember, embodiment is the highest form of communication. When you do your work, you create space for others to do theirs as well. You'll also be far more influential.
Healing Is Also Helpful
We have all created ways to cope with whatever life has put in our path. And by cope, I mean figure out a way to get what we want and need, no matter what. Our coping mechanisms usually change over time. If we applied the coping mechanisms we had when we were 8 or 16 (and those were far better than when we were toddlers or babies) to conflicts in our day job, relationships, financial planning etc., we'd likely struggle. Our coping mechanisms adapt and change as we grow and change, and as our desires for our life and what's in it grow and change.
Old coping mechanisms typically don't work for the new thing(s) we're after and sometimes we get stuck re-using the coping mechanisms we already know. The thing is, they won't always work. If we're stuck in some old pattern that is no longer serving us to create whatever it is we want in our life now, it's time to take a deeper look.
That is what I'm referring to as healing. Taking a deeper look into what is keeping us stuck.
We experience traumas of all sizes throughout our lifetimes. Being a human is, by its nature, traumatic. Taking your first breathe, being left with a stranger for the first time, witnessing a tragic accident, losing a loved one, first day at a new school, puberty...trauma at all levels is in our bones, literally (The Body Keeps the Score is a great, yet in-depth read on the topic). Those micro to grand traumas influence our coping mechanisms, they become a part of our story and they are often tied closely with who we believe we are, how the world is and how we feel and behave. Coping mechanisms are often unconscious and show themselves in our responses, our tone of voice, in what is triggering us, and even in what motivates us. In many ways we've embodied our coping mechanisms and without specific attention to unraveling them and learning new ones, we'll get stuck.
There are many, many modalities for healing, for taking a deeper look, and I've tried a lot of them. They come in all kinds of flavors; talking to a trusted, dear friend, joining a support group, seeing a therapist, enrolling in a personal growth course, hiking in nature, going back to school, journaling, a life coach, a psychiatrist, a counselor, a guru, a shaman, a medicine man, creating a vision board, recording a podcast, talking to myself, reading, joining a book club, learning and unlearning.
ClarityWorks is not intended to be a healing modality or a replacement for professional treatments, but it can work very well in tandem. As we clarify for ourselves the current-day answers to questions about identity, goals, source and strategy we're going to run into outdated coping mechanisms. And it is my belief that one of the best ways to bring up and address that which is keeping us stuck is to go after making a dream of yours come true.
This method is living and breathing and is not static and complete. It is changing as we learn more about it and as we learn more about how others learn and use this method. We are ever growing, learning, transforming and re-inventing ourselves. There is no done, so no need to be in a rush to get to done. The point is to enjoy it as we go.
